Amethyst Cluster

Classic reddish purple Amethyst cluster with Barite from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

 

What distinguishes our Thunder Bay Amethyst from Amethyst found elsewhere is the colour.  The Thunder Bay area has a very high iron content, so most of the Amethyst specimens have a hematite coating.  This coating changes the colour of the amethyst, ranging anywhere from red to almost black.
